3 oscillator polyphony and subtle detuning between the oscillators reveals some of the character of the instrument; building a patch like this in puredata would be simple, but replicating the imperfection of this particular arp (which sometimes magically decides to lose it's tuning altogether), would be impossible.

To create the sequences with Kria was trivial– the study was sequenced live. This is a testament to the thoughtfulness of the workflow Monome designed. Alan Pearlman, who designed the 2600, said that the underlying circuitry matters much less than the workflow of the instrument, and it's clear what he means after 7 sessions with it. It's an instrument which demands that you play it rather than program it.

Going from a self-designed collection of eurorack modules to a complete instrument which happens to be modular is a shift somewhat like switching programming languages. The 2600 has a long history of use for a reason. It provides useful abstractions for the building blocks of sound.
